Soundex Calculator

The Soundex Calculator is useful for finding the soundex value of a name, which is then used to match names that sounds the same but are spelt differently, for example Bailey/Baily/Bayley/Baillie. This is usually used in genealogy search engines for phonetic name matching.

The Soundex code for a name consists of a letter followed by three numerical digits: the letter is the first letter of the name, and the digits encode the remaining consonants.

To access the Soundex Calculator, go to the 'Tools' menu and click 'Soundex Calculator'. You can then enter a name and click 'OK' to show the soundex value for that name.
